Winners of Wiz-Art 2017

We have created a new siory of lyfe and enjoyed almost a hundred films from all around the world. We defined our winners and trusted the choice of the international jury.

October 15 the official closing ceremony of the 10th Lviv International Short Film Festival Wiz-Art took place in Lviv Art Palace. The Grand Prix of the festival was given to the film by Ukrainian director Yuriy Katynsky “Aftertaste”, the best Ukrainian short film is Philip Sotnychenko’s “Technical break”. The winners of the festival were determined by the international jury: Hungarian director and film producer – Terez Koncz, Ukrainian director  Svitlana Shymko and Austrian producer Christian Dohr. In addition to the Grand Prix, winners were also determined in the nominations: “Best Cinematography”, “Best Directing” and “Best Script”. Two films of the international competition program and one film of the Ukrainian competition program received Special jury mentions. The winners were also determined by the audience of the festival.

GRAND PRIX AND AUDIENCE CHOICE IN NATIONAL COMPETITION

AFTERTASTE 20′ Yura Katynsky Ukraine 2017

The guy comes back to the small city, where he meets his old friends. They have a good time together. In the end of the day they decided to continue their “meeting”. They get into a car with a stranger, whose motives are unknown. Such a spontaneous action turns out to be a chance to become closer to each other and find yourself.

Jury statement: 

For the light-hearted and elegant directing, excellent use of suspense, and a frank portrayal of youth.

BEST SCRIPT

FAT BOY NEVER SLIM 14′ Sorayos Prapapan Thailand 2016

Under the rule of military junta, two fat schoolboys don’t want to serve in the military when they turn 21. They want to enroll the territorial defense course, but they need to pass the physical test. Will fat boys like them be able to pass the test?

For the intelligent and ironic anti-militarist statement.

 

BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY

LIGHTRAPPING 22′ Marcio Miranda Perez Brazil 2016 

Gustavo is a photographer who registers the bodies of naked men in public spaces of Sao Paulo. One night, young Pedro follows him, curious and undecided about participating in the project or not. The city will witness the journey.

Jury statement: 

For the brave visual approach and the creative use of darkness.

 

BEST DIRECTING

HOT AND COLD 35′ Marta Prus Poland 2016

It is a story of a meeting, made in one shot. During just a few moments the lives of the two women, who are complete strangers, bump into each other. Despite unfavorable circumstances they eventually help each other.

Jury statement: 

For the mature directorial voice and strong visual approach in expressing a complex emotional story.

BEST UKRAINIAN FILM

TECHNICAL BREAK 29′ Philip Sotnychenko Ukraine 2017

Sometimes the most important events pass unnoticed. The movie follows the events that take place during the break in a supermarket. In the course of this technical break, the cashier who hides her pregnancy manages to steal items from the supermarket, sell them at the bazar and lose hope for a happy motherhood before returning to her workplace.

For a fresh and courageous conceptual approach, excellently led actress, and social empathy.

SPECIAL MENTION INT. COMPETITION

POLONAISE 16′ Agnieszka Elbanowska Poland 2016

In the small, central Polish town of Aleksandrow Kujawski, the director of the local culture centre announces a competition. The theme … a creative presentation of your personal patriotic attitude. The eleventh day of the eleventh month arrives … Poland’s Independence Day. And on this very day, the jury, consisting of the director, the mayor, a priest and a local poetess, will select the region’s number one patriot.

For the smart and sarcastic look on the cultural construction of nationalism.

WEDNESDAY BLUES 19′ Sophia Bösch Germany 2016

Of pride, prejudice and aqua gymnastics.
Six elderly ladies at their weekly aqua gym class, trainer Andy being their highlight in the retirement home’s monotony. But this time an incident occurs that gets everyone off beat and into distress.

For the empowerment of women of all ages, and the refreshing nature of the conflict.

KIEV MOSCOW 24′ Anna Lyubynetska Czech Republic, Ukraine 2016

Renata’s brother is away at war. One day she gets a work assignment to take care of a young man who comes from the enemy’s country.

FRENCH 20′ Josza Anjembe France 2016

At seventeen, Seyna, a teenager from Cameroon is passionate about France history, the country where she was born and she is deeply in love.
Her diploma in hand, and approaching her majority, Seyna aspires only one thing: to acquire French nationality. But his father Amidou is fiercely opposed to it.
