Life in Ukraine now provides the perfect setting for films, but it is not a film. You cannot replay it. Experience calm and meditative dive into the everyday strength of the human spirit and unbearable sadness, reflecting the surrealism that life for Ukrainians has become. There is no way to get used to this, but there is a way to look at this. Reflecting personal and collective experiences of a wartime life through bold storytelling, the authors portray the reality they live in, camouflaging it with fiction.
The screening will take place on April 17, 21:30 at Cinema Fernando Lopes.

Viva uma experiência calma e meditativa que mergulha na força quotidiana do espírito humano e numa tristeza insuportável, refletindo o surrealismo em que a vida dos ucranianos se tornou. Não há forma de nos habituarmos a isto, mas há forma de o encarar. Através de uma narrativa ousada, que reflete experiências pessoais e coletivas de uma vida em tempo de guerra, os autores retratam a realidade em que vivem, camuflando-a com ficção.

Two weeks after Russia invaded his country, acclaimed playwright Bondarenko focused on the life he has lived. A peaceful childhood had followed bloodshed. And now, in adulthood, he faced the threat that previous generations of his family had witnessed. These thoughts took form in a one-act play, written in response to events as they were unfolding. To accompany this filmed version of the play, director Myro Klochko draws on photographs from Bondarenko’s life, conjuring up the people who have populated it and, by extension, the people of Ukraine. The result is an act of artistic expression, of remembrance and, ultimately, of resistance.

Duas semanas após a invasão da Rússia ao seu país, o aclamado dramaturgo Bondarenko concentrou-se na vida que viveu. A uma infância pacífica seguiu-se o derramamento de sangue. Agora, na idade adulta, confronta a ameaça que gerações anteriores da sua família testemunharam. Estes pensamentos tomaram a forma de uma peça de um único ato, escrita em resposta aos eventos à medida que estes se desenrolavam. Para acompanhar esta versão filmada da peça, o realizador Myro Klochko recorre a fotografias da vida de Bondarenko, evocando as pessoas que a habitaram e, por extensão, o povo da Ucrânia. O resultado é um ato de expressão artística, de memória e, em última análise, de resistência.

But winter comes, the apple tree in the yard freezes, and the War reaches Heaven.

Mas o inverno chega, a macieira no quintal gela e a Guerra alcança o Paraíso.
