Opening Ceremony: An introduction by art critic Borys Filonenko, followed by a screening of the opening films.

THE SOIL, WHICH CONNECTS US // 8 min., Richard Marx, Germany, 2023

In this movie Dmytro Dokunov and Richard Marx explore the question of the different realities which take play simultaneously, Richards in Berlin and Dmytro’s at the frontline in Ukraine. How you have to change your own perception of reality? How the perception of your surounding will be changed too? The nature in which they live looks almost identical but war is fundamentally changing the view.

WE MADE A FILM // 14 min., Tota Alves, Portugal, 2024

Maria Inês experiences the first breezes of love during a summer vacation. Accompanied by her friends, she strolls through the neighborhood where she lives, spending her time between beads and the filming of a movie.

TOO CLOSE // 12 min., Eugene Slupchuk, Ukraine, 2024

Two friends return from a party and stay at the home of one of them. It would seem like an ordinary cozy evening but suddenly the heroes are caught in an air raid.

OBITUARY SERVICE FOR YOU // 12 min., María Salafranca, Cuba, 2024

This film is a tour of the funeral home in a small Cuban town led by Maurilio and Fidela, driver and assistant on duty, who have been preparing the corpses for 17 years in the same space where they live their lives and their love.

WHERE RUSSIA ENDS // 20 min., Oleksiy Radynski, Ukraine, 2024

In the late 1980ies, a team of Ukrainian filmmakers from the Science Film Studio in Kyiv made a series of film expeditions to remote parts of Siberia. Their forgotten film reels had been rediscovered in Kyiv in 2022, during the Russian invasion of Ukraine. This was the starting point for a film essay that interrogates Russian imperialism, environmental destruction, and the ongoing oppression of indigenous peoples in Russia’s colonies.

BRIGHT WHITE LIGHT // 14 min., Henna Välkky, Eesu Lehtola, Finland, 2024

Bright White Light is a short animated documentary exploring near-death experiences through five culturally diverse narratives, using real audio recordings. Through experimental visuals, it guides viewers on a transcendent voyage beyond mortality, unveiling how these experiences profoundly impact the essence of life, blurring the boundaries between existence and the mysteries of the afterlife.
