Wiz-Art Lab 2019

From 19-25 August, the traditional WIZ-AR FILM LAB will be held during the 12th Lviv International Film Festival Wiz-Art, which will include a series of meetings, lectures, presentations, shows and workshops from Ukrainian and international film professionals. Participation in the laboratory is free of charge.

This year, the speakers will open the curtain of their own kitchen and will share what they have dared to see:

– how to sell short films;

– what is the author animation;

– how to write scripts for comedy films and what is the humor;

– what is the author documentary film?

We invite Nadia Parfan (Ukraine) to talk about her experience as a director in the documentary genre and our special guest from Berlin Sarah Dombrink (Germany) to tell more about which films have commercial success and why? Director Yannik Dahl Pederson (Denmark) and YAREMA & HIMEY (Ukraine) will meet with the audience in Q&A format, and Ukrainian animator Mykyta Lyskov will share his own experience in making films in a practical workshop on author animation.

WORKSHOP ON AUTHOR ANIMATION. Mykyta Lyskov (Ukraine)

Mykyta Lyskov creates author non-commercial animation and has been doing it for more than 10 years, with his works he is constantly participating in film festivals, giving lectures on the history of animation, organizes and leads classes in the “School of author animation” in Dnipro. His animated film, “I Bought a Bike” received the Grand Prix at “De kino” Festival (Ukraine), and his new work “Love” became the first Ukrainian animated film festival to participate in Annecy International Animated Film Festival.

During the workshop, Mykyta will show his animated films, tell about the creation process in detail, where ideas come from and why in Ukraine to engage oneself in author animation.

 

WORKSHOP. LONG-DISTANCE RUN: THE DIRECTOR’S PATH IN DOCUMENTARY CINEMA Nadia Parfan (Ukraine)

Nadia Parfan majored in cultural studies, anthropology, and urbanism. In 20142015, she took a documentary directing course at Wajda School. Nadia is a creative producer of MyStreetFilmsUkraine series and a co-founder of “86” festival. In her workshop, Nadia will tell about her 3-year experience of working on the film “Heat singers” and forming herself as a female film director.

 

WORKSHOP. SHORTLY AFTER FESTIVALS – SELLING SHORT FILMS. Sarah Dombrink (Germany)

Giving insight into short film sales and distribution, Sarah Dombrink, acquisitions manager for Interfilm Berlin Short Film Sales & Distribution, will outline how the commercial side of the short film business is set up and go into what makes a promising sales film by showing some examples of short films that were successfully distributed and some that weren’t.

 

Q&A. Jannik Dahl Pederson (Denmark)

Jannik Dahl Pedersen is a Danish film director and scriptwriter. His major focus is satire and comedy, and he is currently in development on both a feature comedy film with “Zentropa” and a comedy series called “Wonderful Copenhagen”. In Lviv Jannik will show his well-known comedy short “Triangles of Happiness” and answer questions from the audience.

 

Q&A. YAREMA & HIMEY (Ukraine)

Yarema Malashchuk and Roman Himey are from Kolomyia (Ivano-Frankivsk region, Ukraine), now working and living in Kyiv. They work on the edge of various visual arts, like film directors, artists, and cinematographers. Awarded the second Special Prize in contemporary art at the PinchukArtCentre Prize 2018. Collaborated with the Dutch art collective Metahaven on their film work “Native City” and film director Philip Sotnychenko (film “Son”, “Nail” and “Technical Break”). Currently, the duo is working on personal art projects and on the debut feature film “Zarvanytsia”.
