Wiz-Art 2015 winners

8 Lviv International Short Film Festival announced the winners in the national and the international competition.

Best films were chosen by Polish director Katarzyna Gondek, Austrian director Christoph Schwarz and Ukrainian direcrot Oleksandr Ratiy.

Grandpa Lesha and grandma Christine decided to die on the same day. But Grandpa always finds reasons to postpone this event. It is clear that grandfather making up some plan. He will have to do some desperate actions to implement his plans and to convince grandmother to postpone their “death on the same day”.

SPECIAL MENTION – national competition

A special mention for creating a fairytale world with modern instruments goes to THE SHOP OF SINGING BIRDS by Anatoliy Lavrenishy

In 1682 during his last trip to the Ottoman Empire Antoine Galland wrote down couple of stories that were told to him by a wandering monk. For unknown reasons those stories were not included to “The Thousand and One Nights”. Then 331 years have passed and animation studio “MarcusFilm” made a movie out of one of the most fantastic stories of the collection and called it “The Shop of SongBirds”.

BEST UKRAINIAN FILM

For the delightful delicacy of the narration, the main prize in the ukrainian competition goes to AWAY by Kateryna Gornostai

Goy and Lee are best friends. Their periods come on the same day every month. One day, Goy finds her period doesn’t come on the same day as Lee’s for the first time.

For the way the camera carries this tragic story, the Prize for the best cinematography goes to SHIPWRECKED by Morgan Knibbe

SHIPWRECK 15′ Morgan Knibbe Netherlands 2014

On three October 2013, a boat carrying 500 Eritrean refugees sunk off the coast of the Italian island Lampedusa. More than 360 people drowned. Abraham, one of the survivors, walks through a graveyard of shipwrecks and vividly remembers the nightmarish experience. Meanwhile at the harbor, hundreds of coffins are being loaded onto a military ship.

For a clean and clear manifestation of a shapeless matter, the prize for best script goes to ART by Adrian Sitaru

After a casting session, two filmmakers found the perfect 14-year-old girl to star in their new movie. Now, they have to convince the reluctant mother to let her daughter play the role of a sexually abused child. What follows is a witty argumentation on proper parenting and on the abuses and sacrifices made in the name of great works of art.

For the films unique sensuality, the prize for the best director goes to THUNDERBIRDS by Lea Mysius

GRAND PRIX

For giving us a ticket to the games we play, the Grand Prix of the 8th Lviv International Short Film Festival Wiz-Art goes to THE SATANIC THICKET by Willy Hans.
